SILENT KEY – Sam Baldwin, N5SRB

Posted on May 5, 2018 by Site Admin

Sam Baldwin, N5SRB (left) with nephew, Mark

It is with much grief and sadness that we must report that Sam Baldwin, N5SRB, died suddenly on the evening of Saturday, December 30th, 2017.  Sam had countless friends in the amateur radio community whom he talked with on a regular basis.  He was much loved by us in The CAUHF Group and the ARLinks System.  Sam, held the position of Vice President of The CAUHF Group and previously held a Board Position for two years.  He was excited about serving another year as Vice President in 2018.  Sam often served as a net control operator on the ARLinks System and also on various other HF nets in this part of the U.S., including the Awful Awful Ugly HF Net.  But Sam was not ugly;  he was a big, handsome fellow with a remarkable and resounding radio voice that was familiar to hundreds of amateur radio operators.  He had a big stature, big voice and a big heart.  He will be greatly missed!

Sam truly was a warm and generous Christian man who was treasured by all of his Christian friends from his Church, the blind community, and the amateur radio community.  On the evening of Saturday, December 30th, he dined with another ham, Larry Bailey, N0LSB and his wife, Mary Jane.  They had just returned to his home in West Little Rock when he collapsed and died on his front porch.  We are grateful to Larry and Mary Jane that Sam did not die alone, but rather, in the arms of beloved friends.
Sam’s online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
