January 2016 Meeting

First Meeting of the New Year, January 4th, 2016
Guest Speaker:  Steve Drillette, Meteorologist-In-Charge
National Weather Service Forecast Office, Little Rock

The first meeting of 2016 was a BIG one–a packed house!  Pizza, prizes and a great program–we had everything!  It appears that everyone in attendance paid their 2016 dues, either in person or online!  This shored up our bank account a bit and enables us to maintain our incredible statewide repeater system!

steve_drilletteWe were indeed honored to have as our guest speaker, Steve Drillette, Meteorologist-In-Charge of the Little Rock office of the National Weather Service (located in North Little Rock).  Mr. Drillette became MIC of the Little Rock WFO on April 7, 2015, soon after the retirement of Dr. Renee Fair.  Mr. Drillette comes to Arkansas from the NWS Forecast Office in Brownville, Texas where he also held the position of Meteorologist-In-Charge.

Mr. Drillette spoke to us about severe weather in Arkansas and he also talked about how the NWS values its trained weather spotters and the National Skywarn Program.  He delivered a great PowerPoint presentation.  This was a rare opportunity for members of the CAUHF Group to meet and get acquainted with Mr. Drillette.

The meeting was held at Larry’s Pizza on Cantrell.  We heard a treasurer’s report from newly elected secretary-treasurer Margie Wofford, KG5EPM and a repeater status report from Joel Echols, N5QLC, our chief engineer.  As always, we held a $1 raffle drawing at the end of the meeting.  Dan Cassidy, N5DBC, was the lucky winner of a Baofeng dual band, hand held radio. We also gave away four other nice prizes–and ALL were genuine Craftsman tools!  Be sure to enter the date into your smartphone for the NEXT Meeting of the CAUHF Group, Monday, April 4th, 2016 at 5:30 p.m.  Location and program to be announced.  Check back here often.
