July 7th, 2014 Meeting
“Digital Mobile Radio (DMR)” presented by Luke Williams, AE5AU
LOCATION: Larry’s Pizza – 12911 Cantrell Road, Little Rock
(1.25 miles west of I-430 & Cantrell Road overpass)
5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
CAUHF Group Board Member, Luke Williams, provided an excellent presentation on DMR. We had a tremendous turnout of 23 members and guests at Larry’s Pizza on Cantrell. There is much interest in DMR, especially now that Arkansas’ FIRST DMR REPEATER, 443.350 is operational on Shinall Mountain. DMR is a new digital mode which requires a digital radio. Not only is the audio crystal clear but a DMR digital repeater can handle multiple, simultaneous conversations on one frequency. DMR is similar to its commercial radio cousin, Motorola MotoTRBO. Luke answered many questions regarding DMR:
- What is DMR?
- What are other digital voice options and how do they all compare?
- How does the DMR network work?
- What are some options for purchase of your first DMR radio?

Also, we held a $1 raffle at the end of the meeting and gave away (1) a Baofeng UV-5R dual band handheld, (2) a Nickelson hacksaw (tower take down tool), (3) a General Brand miniature electric screwdriver set and (4) a 25W Weller soldering iron with LED illumination. If you were not there, you missed a great presentation, great pizza, and great prizes! See you at the next meeting on August 4th!
