February 2014 Meeting

These are not meeting minutes, just a few notes about the meeting so you will know what you missed if you weren’t there.  The CAUHF Group had a well attended meeting on Monday night, February 3rd, 2014 at Larry’s Pizza on Highway 10 in Little Rock.  We began the the pizza buffet at 5:30 p.m. and then started the meeting at 6:30 p.m.  There had 25 members and guests present, most of which were paid members.  Club president, Randy Wright, AE5RW, presided over the meeting.

Randy announced that John Robinson, with the National Weather Service, would likely be our guest speaker at the March 3rd meeting.  The location is yet to be determined but it will not be at Larry’s Pizza because their banquet room would not be large enough for the crowd that John Robinson will certainly draw.  As soon as the meeting place is confirmed, it will be posted here on the HOME page.

Steve, W5NLR, announced that the April 7th meeting will be held at the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock.  We will have pizza in the ADEM dining hall from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and then tour the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) beginning at 6:30 p.m.  This is an event you DO NOT want to miss–especially if you have never seen the State of Arkansas EOC, one of the best in the nation;  this new facility was dedicated in December, 2006.  Our tour guide will be Brandon D. Morris, Deputy Public Information Officer for ADEM.  More details about this event will be forthcoming but mark your calendars NOW, for Monday night, April 7th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock.

Our special presentation on Monday, February 3rd, was delivered by David Baker, Lead Project Manager for the Arkansas Wireless Information Network (AWIN).  David gave us an overview of AWIN systems and operations, along with a status report on the latest AWIN projects.  Our original guest speaker was to have been Penny Rubow, the Director of AWIN, but she had a family emergency at the last minute and so, we were very fortunate that David Baker fill in for her;  he delivered an excellent PowerPoint presentation and answered practically every question we threw at him.  David was great speaker!

We concluded the meeting with a raffle drawing for a new Baofeng UV-5R+ hand held radio, a nice set of six Craftsman pliers and wire cutters and a Craftsman hex key set with both SAE and Metric wrenches.

You should have been there!  Hope we see you at the NEXT MEETING with John Robinson on Monday night, March 3rd.
