January 2014 Meeting

These are not meeting minutes, just a few notes about the meeting so you will know what you missed if you weren’t there.  The CAUHF Group had a well attended meeting on Monday night, January 6, 2014 at Larry’s Pizza on Highway 10 in Little Rock.  We began pillaging the pizza buffet at 5:30 p.m. and then started the meeting at 6:30 p.m.  There were at least 21 people present, most of which were paid members.  Club president, Randy Wright, AE5RW, presided over the meeting.

Randy announced that the newly designed website came online Sunday, January 5th, the day before.  Thanks to Luke Williams, AE5AU for getting us set up with a new hosting provider and getting our domain name moved over.  The domain name remains www.cauhf.org  That’s where you are now if you’re reading this.

The only business we transacted was to kick off the 2014 Membership Drive.  A motion was made and seconded to extended full membership FREE to any licensed ham who has never before been a member of the CAUHF Group.  The motion was discussed and qualified to say that new members should have a sponsor–that can be any member of the club who invites them to come to a meeting or at least knows them.  If they don’t know anyone in the club, we’ll find them a sponsor–just someone who can answer their questions and introduce them the CAUHF Group.  The motion stated that the new memberships would be offered and be valid until the end of 2014.  The motion passed unanimously.

Vice President, Steven Hicks, W5NLR, showed the beautiful new membership certificates that will be issued for 2014 members and passed out a few that had already been printed and signed by the club president and the club secretary/treasurer.  Frames not included.

Following that, Steve also did a short presentation on “Baluns:  What are They, and What Are They Used For?”.  Also, he passed around a couple of baluns that he brought with him:  one was a 9:1 end fed, current balun attached to a 20 meter end fed wire antenna.  the other was a 1:1 current balun, both made by Buckmaster.  The handouts from the presentation are attached to this post.

The next meeting will be on Monday night, February 3rd.  It might be at Larry’s Pizza or it might be somewhere else.  Check back here.
